A demographer by training, Dr. Zhanlian Feng received his M.A. (1999) and Ph.D. (2002) degrees in sociology from Brown University. He specialized in quantitative research methods and demographic analysis techniques. Dr. Feng has years of experience analyzing the Online Survey Certification and Reporting (OSCAR) database of all certified U.S. nursing homes and the national registry of nursing home resident assessments using the Minimum Data Set (MDS). His research focuses on various outcomes concerning the structure, process and quality of nursing home care as well as the impact of state long-term care policies on those outcomes. Dr. Feng is also interested in the rapid growth of elder care institutions in China in recent years and cross-national comparative analyses in the area of long-term elder care.
