Nursing Home Care Research
The over arching goal of the nursing home group is to conduct policy relevant studies to study quality of nursing home care through examination of resident outcomes, processes of care, nursing home management, economic efficiency, state policies, and nursing home markets. Most research activities are conducted using secondary data, primarily Minimum Data Set (MDS) resident assessments, and nursing home provider information from the Online Survey Certification And Reporting (OSCAR). The group also conducts primary data research, mostly collecting data at the nursing home organization level.
Group members
conduct measurement research, composing new measures of care and quality,
and studying their epidemiological value. Indeed, Dr. Mor was one of the originators
of the MDS in the late 1980's. Group members also engage in development of
new statistical tools, and in the use of other novel statistical methods such
as multilevel models.
