Background Information to Aid in
Understanding the Study of Care
at the Last Place of Care

PROVIDED COORDINATED CARE

"Well, my, my sister was going in and heard [my mom] screaming, and she told [the nurses aides] to please not handle her like that, that she had a broken hip. And they said, "Well, that's the first we heard of it. We didn't even know it." And they were supposed to go down and read the notes on the book about each patient everyday, and we were told that they just didn't read… [My mom] suffered a lot and she should not have. You know, by just ignorance, not knowing, not reading the report of what was wrong with each patient. …Before they started to work, they were to read about each patient, and they don't do it. If they did, they would have seen on the notes that she had a broken hip. So, you see how she suffered there. Just picking her up by her legs and one of 'em broken. So, just a lot of unnecessary suffering that old people do that shouldn't be."
